Belair Mansion
Built ca. 1745, Belair was home of provincial
governor Samuel Ogle, and also the home of Maryland's first Thoroughbred
racehorses. Ogle's terraced gardens boasted a deerpark, a vineyard, and
greenhouse to support his elegant Georgian-style plantation home.
Remaining in family ownership through the 19th
century, the estate was acquired in 1898 by the Woodward family who
continued the farm's horse racing legacy and restored and enlarged the
great mansion house. It is furnished to reflect over 200 years of
private ownership.
