Bowie Railroad Station and Huntington Museum
Modern Bowie grew around the
junction of the rail lines connecting Southern Maryland, Washington, and
Baltimore. In 1853, Maryland's Legislature granted a charter to form
the Baltimore & Potomac Railroad Company to begin construction of a
railroad through Southern Maryland. Today's structures, built in early
20th century and later owned by the
Pennsylvania Railroad, recall a time when railways were America's
foremost mode of passenger transportation and shipping.
